The ancient inhabitants of these places, in fact, without any imposition by a sovereign tyrants, but by the iron necessity of obtaining cultivated areas in a hostile environment, have replaced the natural flora of the steep slopes with a dense texture of cultivated terraces screw, supported by a network of approximately 6,729 km of dry stone walls.
Lavagna and the historic center
A relaxing walk ten minutes in a cool, tree-lined street, corso Buenos Aires, towards the center takes us to visit our beautiful town.
Lavagna is a center of lively and colorful holiday: just walk through the streets of its old town to be pleasantly surrounded by the painted facades of the ancient Ligurian tradition, a unique background to make you feel at the center of your holiday here, have a formidable base in the harbor, one of the largest in the entire Mediterranean area, the starting point for exploring the truest Liguria.
The city stretches along the coast of the Ligurian Riviera, but also inland. Geographically to divide the city from the river near Chiavari is Entella, leading into the sea right on the border of the two coastal municipalities. The city was in 2007 awarded the Blue Flag for the quality of its beaches. The town is part of the geographical area called Tigullio.
The village, like many other towns in Liguria, was developed in Roman times with the Latin name of Lavania. The name has remained unchanged for centuries until it became in later centuries in the current name of Lavagna.
